Eckhardt's Homiletisches Reallexikon, 1907–1917

A cumulative subject index to seven Missouri Synod periodicals, compiled by E. (Ernest) Eckhardt (1868–1939) and printed at St. Louis between 1907 and 1917. Under each headword it sets numbered theses, and beside each thesis the places where the periodicals had treated it — by volume and page, running twenty years past the last of Der Lutheraner's own registers. Where the archive holds the volume a citation names, the citation below is a link to that page.

The alphabetical run is here in full, Abendmahl through Wunder, assembled from five scans: two archive.org items, a pair from Google Books that closes what had looked like a gap in the middle of the alphabet, and the archive.org tail. With it are the Beichtreden appendix, Eckhardt's own printed Register, and the separate 1913 treatise Die Schule, bound in with the later volumes and kept here under its own heading.

Headwords are spelled as Eckhardt set them, so the filter folds the differences that would otherwise hide them — Sklaverei finds Sclaverei, Konkordienformel finds Concordienformel. What you see listed is always the printed spelling.

3. Lehrſtreite a. richten auf der einen Seite großen Schaden an. Dadurch kommt Trennung und Ärgernis zuſtande, viele werden verführt. Auch rechtſchaffene Seelen geraten in nicht geringe Gefahr. Das iſt Kriegslauf. Ein Lehr⸗ ſtreit iſt ein Krieg; b. bringen auf der anderen Seite großen Nutzen. 1. Die Lehre der Schrift wird in feſte, be ſt imemte Ausdrücke gefaßt, z. B. die Lehre von der Perſon Chriſti. Daß Chriſtus Gottes Sohn ſei, hätte Arius zugegeben, aber nicht, daß er mit dem Vater weſensgleich ſei. Durch das Wort „weſensgleich“ iſt nicht ein neuer Glaubensartikel entſtanden, wohl aber die alte Bibellehre unzweideutig zum Ausdruck gekommen. 2. Die Chriſten, die auf Gottes Wort hören, wachſen in der Erkenntnis, werden immer geübter, Gottes Wort zu handeln. Durch Lehrſtreite iſt unſeren Vätern in unſerer Synode das Licht aufgegangen. Il. 97, 29. Anm. a. Die Lehrkämpfe, die hinter uns liegen, haben uns keinen Schaden getan. Ohne dieſe Lehrkämpfe wäre uns die reine Lehre nicht erhalten geblieben. Anm. b. Lehrſtreitigkeiten treiben zum fleißigen Forſchen und Studieren der Schriſr. 3. Chriſten werden der Wahrheit und der Seligkeit immer gewiſſer, das Herz wird gegründet. 4. Unlautere Geiſier werden offenbar, der Irrtum entlarvt, der Sauerteig ausgefegt und die Kirche innerlich befeſtigt. Anm. Falſche Propheten ſind der Schleifſtein der Kirche. 68.
