266. Nominations Committee, Bylaw 2.941, b (Ag. 1548): In order to clear up any misunderstanding as to
exactly when the Committee for Convention Nominations will take office, the Commission approved the
rewording of this bylaw as follows:
b. The Nominating Committee will take office on September I following the District conventions
in the year immediately preceding a synodical convention. The entire . . .
267. Board for Social Ministry Services) Bylaw 2.423, d (Ag. 1549): The Commission agreed that since
the paragraph had been changed to read "program boards" instead of "Board for Congregational
Services," the word "its" in line 2 should be changed to "their":
d. provide advisory services to the program boards in order that their materials and programs will
cultivate congregation members in their concern for human care.
268. Other Handbook Changes: During the course of the meeting the Commission also took the following
actions with respect to certain bylaws for the new Handbook:
2.188, c -

3.127 - Election of President and Vice President
3.129 - Holding More Than One Office
3.131 - Prohibition of Conflict of Interest

4.35-

In this paragraph on the election of delegates, "second" was changed to "lay" since the
convention had not approved the proposal regarding franchise but had decided that a
special committee should study it further.

5.65 - Membership of Missionaries. Since only Synod sends out foreign missionaries and since
Synod for several years now has had only one Board for Mission Services, the wording
was changed to read: " . . . shall be addressed to the Board for Mission Services and shall
be acted on at the next . . .”
5.109,b,1

-

Teacher Colloquies. Since the school president would be reporting to himself if
the singular would be retained, the Commission decided to change "member" to
"members."

5.127,d, e - The floor committee had taken pains to refer to "entity," since Valparaiso does not in
itself train deaconesses for the Synod. It was therefore felt that the reference in d
and e should be improved by adopting the wording:
d. The examining committee shall recommend to the faculty of
the preparatory entity for endorsement those applicants . . .
