230. Conference Status of Non-LCMS Persons (Ag. 1350): The Secretary stated that no further word had
been received on this item. It will be continued on the agenda.
231. Constitution of Rockford High School Association (Ag. _135_1): Rev. Robert Maschke of Rockford,
Illinois had asked whether the revised Constitution of the Lutheran High School Association, which
permits full membership by non-Missouri Synod congregations, was in harmony with the Constitution
and Bylaws of the Synod. After very lengthy discussion the following reply was adopted:
Our Synod has always held, now also over against governmental encroachment, that its schools are
truly "church." Therefore the schools must also be governed by the synodical position on
fellowship and the requirements of Article VI of its Constitution.
The Commission therefore reaffirms what it stated in part in December, 1972 when a similar
question was raised regarding a school association:
The Commission advises that the control of the school remain with the Missouri Synod
congregations; however, the Commission suggests that the Missouri Synod congregations in
__________________ gratefully permit participation on the part of other congregations in
the community within the limitation set forth above.
By "control" the Commission on Constitutional Matters means "the decisionmaking function."
