331. Kuenne Funeral: The Secretary reported on the death and funeral of our beloved brother in Christ,
Herbert Kuenne, who had died in an airport limousine in St. Louis on his way to attend a meeting at 210.
The report was supplemented by Sommermeyer who also attended the funeral service. It was resolved by
acclamation to express our sentiments of sorrow to Mrs. Ruth Kuenne. Freise will try to make
arrangements for a commemorative scroll of appreciation to be presented to her. Mueller called attention
to a bill of $382.93 which had been presented to Mrs. Kuenne by the Ambruster Mortuary of St. Louis.
He reported that in all probability the Controller's Office would authorize payment of $232.93 from the
Board of Directors budget. The members of the commission resolved to authorize an additional payment
of the balance of $150.00 to Mrs. Kuenne from the CCM budget.
332. Fact Finding Committee: Dr. A. Ahlschwede and Dr. Martin Neeb,Sr. appeared before the
commission in support of a memo addressed by the plenary Board for Higher Education (including
institutional presidents) asking for some modification of the letter which had been addressed by the
commission to Dr. Preus suggesting answers to six objections which he had received to the seminary
inquiry. The plenary BHE expressed especially three concerns in this memo (attached to the minutes). On
the following day the commission drafted and approved a letter to the BHE giving the assurance that
nothing in the commission's letter of October 2, 1970 to Dr. Preus places in jeopardy or abrogates any of
the bylaw provisions governing our colleges as set forth in chapter six of the Handbook and permitting
this letter to be used by the college presidents if representatives of any accrediting agency would raise
questions. The letter is attached to the minutes. Before finalizing its position the Board again invited Dr.
Ahlschwede to appear and received his reactions and comments to the proposed draft. He seemed to
indicate general satisfaction. (Ag. 249)
