The Luther Missouri Read
The St. Louis Edition of Luther's Works, 1880–1910
In 1879 Missouri Synod pastors resolved to reprint all of Luther in German. The plates cost $8,000 before the sixth volume was out, sales collapsed, and the Synod's press finished anyway, thirty years later, down to the index. The St. Louis Edition, from its own forewords and the Synod's minutes.
