May the love of Christ constrain you in all your deliberations. May God's Holy Spirit direct and guide you as you study and act on all the memorials and resolutions presented to this convention. On this occasion we thank the officials of the Synod for the support they have given the league. We are also indebted to pastors and congregations for permitting us to work with them and their people and to solicit their support and their prayers in helping us expand our program of service to individuals, congregations, and Christ’s redeemed people in the world. The 58th Annual International Lutheran Laymen's League Convention God willing, the 58th annual International Convention of the Lutheran Laymen’s League will be held in New Orleans, La., Aug. 2—8. We extend a hearty invitation to all of you to join us. The Fairmont-Roosevelt Hotel will be convention head- quarters. All who are visited will be given a 2%-inch ‘Alive in Christ” button and a pamphlet inviting them to accept Christ as their Savior and to visit one of our Lutheran churches in the metropolitan area. Some of the con- ventioneers will visit several old folks homes in New Orleans. Aims, Objectives, and Services The league’s objective can best be described as service. We seek to assist the Synod by informing the laity of the needs of the church and through our official publication, pamphlets, leader- ship training sessions, workshops, rallies, and conventions to equip and enable them to be God's representatives where they live and work’and play. The league encourages groups to affiliate with us. For these we provide worship materials, Christian educational topics, suggestions for projects and services for the local congregation, and ideas for wholesome recreation. These groups may be men only, couples or fellowship clubs, voters assemblies, family groups, breakfast or luncheon groups, monthly study groups, Bible classes, special service groups, or young people's organi- zations. They may meet monthly, quarterly, semiannually, or annually. Why not write for our pamphlet “9 Formats for Local Groups” ? The league is reaching out to more and more of the church's
