This was the last remaining house built by Saxon hands (1839) in the Dresden area, where Dr. Walther got his start. This was not only a loss for Lutherans of this area but an irreplaceable loss to all three million members of The Lutheran Church-—Missouri Synod. There is nothing in Dresden to memorialize Dr. Walther, the first President of the Synod. Preservation and development of the “(Camp Dresden” area with a Walther memorial chapel and the old “Ziegel’” Mueller house had been recommended by the Perry County Lutheran Historical Society as long as 10 years ago, but those that could help didn’t: and WHEREAS, The Darnstaedt house (1839), last remaining original house remaining in the Seelitz area, is almost falling to ruin, and the Christiana Loeber cabin of about the same vintage is in danger of demolition: and WHEREAS, Unless the church wakes up to its responsibilities in this area, most of the few remaining physical evidences of the early Saxon beginnings in Perry County will be lost: and WHEREAS, When a similar appeal for help was presented in 1971, the following seven ‘“‘must” projects were outlined for the Synod to provide assistance: a. Restoration of the Darnstaedt house, the oldest remaining house (1839) in Seelitz built by Saxon hands: b. Construction of a (Dr. C. F. W.) Walther memorial chapel in a “Camp Dresden” to be used for retreats and conferences: c. Erection of a picnic shelter on top of Stephansberg: d. A monument at the landing place in Wittenberg on the Mississippi River: e. Rebuilding of the Rev. G. Loeber house, which was the first parsonage of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod; f. The preservation of an old log cabin which may be the Christiana Loeber cabin (1839): g. Equipment (filing cabinet, etc.) for the museum in the “big school” (1845), which is the oldest church building still standing in the Saxon settlements. Although we received nothing from the Synod as such, items d and g were pretty well taken care of since: but the large projects remain; and WHEREAS, All of the aforementioned things are of historical significance to all of the three million members of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod: therefore be it Resolved, That Trinity Lutheran Church of Altenburg, Perry County, Mo., Rev. W. E. Fehrmann, pastor, bring the needs of the Perry County Lutheran Historical Society, Inc., to the atten- tion of the entire Synod, in order to enlist their financial assis- tance in every way possible: and be it further Resolved, That The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod allo- cate 10 cents per member over the next two bicentennial years to help preserve, restore, rebuild, and mark the few remaining Saxon landmarks in Perry County, Missouri. Trinity Lutheran Church Altenburg, Mo. Gerhard Bergt, Chairman Robert G. Kassel, Secretary Walter E. Fehrmann, Pastor To Review Brux Case WHEREAS, The synodical convention in New York reopened the long dormant case against Dr. Adolph Brux and by resolu- tion gravitated toward exoneration of that former missionary (to India), whose prayer fellowship with non-Lutheran Chris- tians and defense of same led to his recall by the Board for Foreign Missions: and WHEREAS, The New York resolution, however sympathetic to Dr. Brux, fell short of the unqualified exoneration due the man, now past threescore years and ten: therefore be it Resolved. That the Anaheim convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod direct the synodical Board for Mis- sions, as successor to the Board for Foreign Missions, to review the Brux case and in the name of the Synod grant Dr. Brux a full pardon, solicit his forgiveness for the injustices he suffered by reason of the action of the Board for Foreign Missions (should the review justify such anticipated action), and effect through established channels his reinstatement in the ministry of The Lutheran Church -— Missouri Synod.
