The Board of Directors of the Synod granted funds to Irvine for site development and improvement. Looking Ahead On the one hand the Board for Higher Education feels concerned as it looks ahead to the time following the Anaheim convention. Without doubt the work load of the board and staff will be greatly increased by the resolutions adopted as a result of the work of the Task Force. Any changes in subsidy pattern, or the closing, consolidation, or moving of schools always require many hours of effort from all synodical boards involved. Additionally the number and nature of the problems in the years ahead, relating to such areas as recruitment, financing, dis- sensions, faculty federations, ELIM, the charismatic movement. and doctrinal disagreements might at first glance look over- whelming. On the other hand, the board definitely looks forward to its work with joy and anticipation. It sees the number and nature of the problems as opportunities. Changes and problems are inevitable. Changes and problems for the children of God always provide opportunities to serve Him. The board realizes that the Lord will keep heaping far more blessings and opportunities on our Synod and its educa- tional system than we will be able and willing to use. He will lead us forward as He always has in the past. We know also that our Lord will hold His protecting and guid- ing hand over all of His people in our schools. His lavish and extravagant goodness permits us to have no doubts or fears concerning His love in Christ, nor toward the ministry that mediates it. With these assurances the board is determined to move forward in faith and confidence for the sake of its central concern and the central concern of all of our schools: God's love in Jesus Christ and the ministry that witnesses to it.
