Ranta 3-39A To Admonish English District Board of Directors WHEREAS. The Board of Control of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, found Dr. John Tietjen guilty of “holding and defend- ing, allowing and fostering false doctrine”: and WHEREAS. Dr. Tietjen was on account of his theological views removed from the office of the presidency of Concordia Semi- nary; and WHEREAS. The Board of Directors of the English District subsequent to the above action declared Dr. Tietjen to be innocent of false doctrine: and WHEREAS. This action was not taken in cooperation with Concordia Seminary’s Board of Control nor with access to all facts in the case from the Board of Control: and WHEREAS. The English District Board of Directors called Dr. Tietjen to become theological consultant to the English District and thus indicated support of his theoligical position: and WHEREAS, Although not all congregations of the English District approve of the action, such action indicates support by the English District for Dr. Tietjen’s theological position and calls upon English District congregations for financial support of Dr. Tietjen’s theological advice: and WHEREAS. The action of calling Dr. Tietjen places English District congregations in the position of supporting views that are contrary to those of the Board of Control of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis: and WHEREAS, The action of the English District Board of Direc- tors has contributed to divisiveness within the District and the Synod, casting doubt on the theological position of the English District Board of Directors as compared with the position and judgment of an official board of the Synod, the Board of Control of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis: therefore be it Resolved. That The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod in this convention admonish the Board of Directors of the English District for taking such divisive action; and be it further Resolved. That The Lutheran Church-— Missouri Synod re- quest the English District Board of Directors to follow orderly procedures in the future in its relationship to other boards and individuals in the Synod and that it retract its declaration that Dr. Tietjen is innocent of false doctrine until such time as this conclusion may be reached by properly constituted agencies or representatives of the Synod. Faith Lutheran Church (English District) Greenfield, Ind. Richard Dubbelde, Secretary Ed Arthur, President Identical or similar: 3-39B Redeemer, Warsaw, Ind. John S. Ricker 3-40 s To Take Various Actions WHEREAS, The Mission:Life Sunday school material is presently being used and encouraged for use as the Sunday school material to be used for the youth of Sunday schools in the Missouri Synod: and WHEREAS, After study of such material, it is this congrega- tion’s opinion that much of the material in essence and theory is anti-Scriptural and presents a very liberal theological view of the Bible; and WHEREAS. It is our further view and opinion that the Synod should sever its connection or membership with LCUSA be- cause of the unfruitful cost of membership and for the further reason that such organization promotes and supports the ordina- tion of women, contrary to the clear Word of God: and WHEREAS. It is our opinion that the Missouri Synod keep and maintain a firm stand against Seminex, which has removed itself from the church and taken a hostile and divisive attitude toward the Missouri Synod: and WHEREAS, It is our opinion that ELIM has been determined and recognized by the Board of Directors as a divisive and disruptive body in the Synod and therefore should be required to either conform to the Synod, its laws, and the Word of God, or removal action be taken against such organization; therefore be it Resolved. That the Sunday school material known as Mission: Life be removed and not be made available for use in the Synod for any purpose: and be it further Resolved. That the Missouri Synod dissociate itself from LCUSA as its costs are not commensurate to any spiritual good, and it promotes the ordination of women, contrary to the Word of God: and be it further Resolved, That Seminex, its faculty, students, and graduates be not in any way recognized as within the Missouri Synod, until such time as they accept the terms and conditions as set out by the Constitution, Bylaws, and regulations of the Synod, and that the Missouri Synod maintain and keep a firm position: and be it finally Resolved, That the organization now known as ELIM, which has so far been allowed to remain in the Synod, be required at the earliest date to either conform to Missouri Synod doctrine, its rules and regulations, its Bylaws, Constitution, and the Word of God, or that removal action be taken against such organiza- tion and its members. Immanuel Lutheran Church Dimock, S. Dak. LeRoy Neugebauer, Secretary 3-41 To Structure Amicable Division WHEREAS, Our beloved church body is beset by theological differences, particularly regarding the question of the inerrancy and authority of the Holy Scriptures; and WHEREAS, These differences are now openly acknowledged and recognized by clergy and lay leaders alike in both “camps”; and WHEREAS, All efforts by the Council of Presidents, the Com- mittee of 5 and 5, the Committee of 20, the conversations of the Concordia Seminary faculty with the Seminex faculty, etc., have only served to demonstrate the great theological void fixed be- tween these two groups within the LCMS: and WHEREAS, All serious efforts at reconciliation down through the years have proved vain because the differences are clearly theological and the proponents of the liberal approach refuse to be convinced from Scripture of the error of their way: and
