ADDENDUM TO THE REPORT OF THE BOARD FOR LUTHERAN TELEVISION NEW ORLEANS CONVENTION, THE LUTHERAN CHURCH - MISSOURI SYNOD JULY, 1973 As you know from your study of the New Orleans Workbook, the Board for Lutheran Television, in recognition of Synod's call in two previous conventions for new plans, programs, and budgets to expand the use of the media of mass communications at home and abroad, held an evaluation confer- ence to which were invited top outside broadcast professionals to offer objective counsel. With the evaluation conference held in March of this year, there was not enough time to distill or refine the input adequately before the dead- line for printed overtures and reports to New Orleans. Thus, this addendum. As a preamble to the proposal and suggested resolution following, the Board for Lutheran Television feels it will be helpful for the understanding and background of the committee to offer a brief summary of the activities and the research leading to the recommendations and programs included in the overture. BACKGROUND The Television Board was encouraged toward these recommendations by the resolutions initially activated by Synod at the Denver Convention of 1969, and emphasized again by the Milwaukee resolutions of 1971. "...Resolved to re-evaluate priorities for the expanded use of the media of mass communications in the proclamation of the Gospel." (Denver 1-12) "Resolved that the Synod allocate necessary funds to carry out its previous action at Denver ‘to expand the use of media of mass communications at home and abroad.'" (Milwaukee 10-19)
