our Committee recommends that the Intersynodical Com-
‘ce on Hymnology and Liturgics be given a vote of thanks for
cellent service to Synod as exemplified in the new hymnal

‘ Wuereas, The new tune edition of 1941 will make for better
and more uniform congregational singing throughout Synod; and
ee Wnuereas, The desire for a word edition is based largely on a
custom which in most cases can soon be overcome; and
: WHEREAS, The publication of the word edition may, in the
ght of present conditions, require several years; and
“ Wuereas, The new tune edition will tend to encourage singing
id playing of hymns in the homes; and
» Wuereas, In view of the fact that the printing of the new tune
ition is exceptionally clear, your Committee is of the opinion that
will not in any way make memorizing of hymns more difficult
the old Liederperlen, widely used in our parochial schools);

Wuereas, The unprecendented sale of the new tune edition
{at the present time more than 570,000) has encouraged your Com-"
1 tittee fo believe that the new tune edition is preferred by the
ajority ‘of our people; and

“"Wuereas, The Intersynodical Committee on Hymnology and
itirgics is strongly in favor of the general use of the tune edition
“opposed to the word edition; and
“Wuereas, In view of uncertain business conditions, the pub-
cation of a word edition may necessitate an additional large
exp ense on the part of Concordia Publishing House because of
ncertainty with regard to the volume of sales; and
“ Wuereas, The new tune edition in leather bindings or the
mily prayer or service book proposed by the Intersynodical Com-
ittee on Hymnology and Liturgics may be used as confirmation
3; and
‘Wuereas, Any changes would interfere seriously with giving
new tune edition a fair trial; therefore your Committee
Unanimously recommends, That Synod defer consideration of
printing of a word edition for at least three years.
