“Temple of Religion, Inc.,” which proposes upon this space to erect
an edifice to be named “Temple of Religion”; and

Wuereas, This temple is to be used for presenting religion
through the following media: 1. convocations, meetings, etc.;
2. music; 3. pageants and dramas; and

Wuereas, The 1939 World’s Fair is an international exhibition,
which will present exhibits and draw visitors from all over the
world; and

Wuereas, We have been informed by the World’s Fair author-
ities that the Lutheran Church will be given opportunities to
present its message in connection with this building; and

Wuereas, The presentation of programs should be by the very
best talent available within our Church; and

Wuereas, It will require funds to help get this talent to New
York City and also to advertise our programs in our circles,

Now therefore, your Committee respectfully requests that
Synod grant it an appropriation of $2,000 for this purpose.

Regarding appropriations for a Lutheran exhibit at the Inter-
national Exposition in San Francisco in 1939 and for Lutheran
programs at the New York World’s Fair in 1939, Committee 14
introduced the following resolution:

Resolved, That Synod encourage the brethren in the West and
in the East to finance and promote through local agencies programs
and exhibits at the coming World’s Fair and Exposition and that
Synod abide by its former policy of not appropriating anything
toward financing exhibits or programs at expositions or world’s
fairs.

The amendment was made to appropriate $2,000 for the New
York World’s Fair and $2,500 for the International Exposition at
San Francisco and that the entire matter be referred to the Fiscal
Conference. .

Action of Synod: The amended resolution was adopted.
