The following are the considerations which prompt us to make this recommendation: 1, Our people have become accustomed to the present trans- lation. 2, Since Dr. Martin Luther’s Small Catechism is a part of our confessional writings which stand through the ages, its language also should not be changed unless absolutely necessary. 3. Having two translations in use in our Synod would cause much confusion. 4. The advantages of using a uniform Small Catechism through- out the Synodical Conference do not convince us of the necessity of a change in our own translation. 5. There seems to be no general demand in our own Synod for a new translation. 6. The present translation, with a few minor exceptions, is the translation contained in our English edition of the Book of Concord. ' In conclusion we present the following resolution adopted by the 1935 convention for reaffirmation on the part of this body: Resolved, That Synod declare its disapproval of the publication and circulation of unauthorized catechisms in its midst. Miller of River Forest was appointed by President J. W. Behnken, D. D., to serve in the place of Rev. Haertel. Unfortunately the printing and mailing was
