Your Committee calls attention to the fact that Synod even three years ago officially expressed the opinion that the time for amalgamation had fully arrived and the committee then appointed was given the task of working together with a committee of the English District with the express purpose that the amalgamation be accomplished, if possible, by this present 1938 convention. Your Committee considers itself bound by the 1935 resolutions as long as they stand, and it sees no reason for Synod’s changing its expressed opinion since your Committee believes that there is a very general desire in our Synod that the day of amalgamation be hastened. Your Committee therefore recommends: 1. That Synod endorse the program suggested by the Synodical Committee and adopted by the English District (see Reports and Memorials, p. 161); 2. That the President of Synod in conjunction with the Vice- presidents again appoint a committee to cooperate with a com- mittee of the English District for the purpose of bringing about an amalgamation at the earliest possible date; 3. That in the mean time the English District as well as the territorial Districts be urged to work together for the common good, especially in the matter of establishing new congregations and missions.
