Owing to the increased amount of work in the School Office of the Board of Education your Committee furthermore recom-- mends that Synod approve the Board’s request for an additional man to assist in the school office. Action of Synod: Paragraph 1 was adopted. Paragraph 2 was referred to the Board of Christian Education jointly with the Board of Directors. Research Work in Lutheran Education (Memorial 123) WuereEAS, Research and testing in secular education has done much to improve teaching in those branches; and Wuereas, Much that should be known about the results of education cannot be determined in any other way than by research and measurement; and Wuereas, Even in the field of religious education there is much that can and should be determined by research and measurement and our Church should not be denied the benefits that come from the results of such study; and Wuereas, We believe this can be effected by having more research work in Lutheran education done under the control of Synod; and Wuereas, At the present time a number of men in the faculties of the normal schools have sufficient interest and training in the field of research; and Wuereas, None of them have the necessary time and funds to devote to research projects, though several years ago a complete plan has been adopted by the faculty and the Board of Control of River Forest for conducting research through the summer-school; therefore be it Resolved, That we petition the Hon. Synod to establish a re- search bureau in Lutheran education at our Concordia Teachers’ College at River Forest and provide sufficient funds to do this work properly. SoutTHERN Ixiinors District.
