LUTHERAN CHURCH Lutherville, La. Thomas Noon, Pastor Identical or Similar: 11-28B Augustana Lutheran Church, Alexandria, La., Charles B. Davis. President; Thomas Noon, Pastor. 11-28C New York State Pastoral Conference, Atlantic District, Daniel Aho, Secretary. 11-29 To Establish Realistic Salaries for Pastors Wuereas. There is no uniform and standard method for establishing salaries for pastors in accordance with the high calling of their service to our Lord: and Wuereas. The establishment of proper salaries for our pastors is a matter which should demand the immediate at- tention of every resource of our Synod; and Whereas, Our Synod should establish policies which would bring the salaries of pastors in line with the high cost of living which continues to increase constantly: and WHEREAS, Our young men must be encouraged to become students of theology and be assured a proper salary upon entering the field of service for their Lord: therefore be it Resolved, That our Synod meeting in 1973 establish realis- tic salaries with practical increases for our pastors as fol- lows: beginning weekly salaries for our seminary graduates of $100 with weekly increase of $5 for each year in the min- istry and $35 weekly for auto operation and replacement, a weekly pension allowance of $15 with weekly increases of $1 for each year in the ministry and full coverage in the Concordia Welfare Plan: a suitable parsonage including utilities or housing allowance is to be made available: and be it further Resolved, That each pastor be provided with a weekly allowance of $35 for state. federal, and social security taxes with weekly increases of $1 for each year in the ministry: and be it finally Resolved, That the Synod use every means available to encourage and assist all congregations in conducting Biblical, Christ-centered programs of genuine Christian stewardship so as to be able to provide for the proper care and keeping of their pastors and also be faithful in giving generous sup- port to the teaching and preaching of God's Holy Word through the Christ-commanded mission work being done through the dedicated efforts of our Synod. LUTHERAN CHURCH OF Our SAvIOR Rosemount, Minn. Charles Tomfohrde, Secretary 11-30 To Enlarge Mailing List to Include All Faculty Members Wuereas. A large segment of the professional ministry of the Synod does not receive the literature sent to pastors and male teachers: and Wuereas. Information contained in this literature can con- tribute to a more effective ministry; therefore be it Resolved. That the literature of Synod currently sent only to pastors and male teachers now be sent to all faculty members of synodical institutions, in particular correspon- dence emanating from the office of the President and the CTCR: and be it finally Resolved, That the Commission on Ministry and Mission study the policies governing the distribution of synodical literature as it contributes to an effective ministry, and bring recommendations to the next convention. Faculty Concorpia TEACHERS COLLEGE River Forest, Il. 11-31 To Adopt Declaration Concerning Communists As Christians we are concerned about injustices and op- pression wherever these are to be found; but toward our fellow Christians we have a special obligation, particularly where they are experiencing oppression in severe form. Since it is well known that Christians are being persecuted, espe- cially in territories under Communist rule, we petition the 1973 convention of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod to resolve: 1. We solemnly declare our solidarity with the suffering, bleeding, yet confessing church under oppression (1 Cor. 12:16). 2. We praise God for the inspiring, victorious faith and love with which He has blest these our persecuted brethren. 3. We thank our gracious God for having hitherto pre- served our nation and church from the scourge of terror and persecution. 4. We call on all Christians who enjoy the privilege of political freedom to be well informed about the fate of Chris- tians under oppression, to pray fervently for our persecuted fellow believers and for the conversion of their tormentors, to support these suffering Christians by every available means, and to imitate humbly their great zeal and self- sacrifice in the service of the crucified and risen Savior. 5. We call on all church leaders to keep the cause of the oppressed Christians before the forum of world opinion — and not by silence to aid and abet their persecution. 6. We call upon our country to protest in the United Nations Organization against the continued violation in the Soviet Union, China. and other countries. of their Christian citizens’ basic human rights, as guaranteed especially in Articles 18 and 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the U.N.O. on Dec. 10, 1948 (and by the U.S.S.R. on Nov. 1, 1962), and to urge the UNO to take all possible steps to secure the compliance of the aforementioned countries with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. 7. We call on all Christians to pray for their fellow be- lievers in the captive nations especially during the third week in July, which has been set aside by our Congress . ive j y as Captive Nations Week. Trinity LUTHERAN CHURCH New Haven, Mo. Larry Scheer, Secretary 11-32 To Add Name of Spouse and Wedding Anniversary Date of Each Church Worker in Future “Annuals” Wuereas. The professional church workers in Synod are making more frequent moves during their ministry; and Wuereas, Such mobility makes it increasingly more im- portant to establish personal contact between families of professional church workers; therefore be it Resolved, That The Lutheran Annual include the first name of the living spouse and the wedding anniversary date of each full-time professional church worker in Synod; and be it further Resolved, That the individual and’or group responsible for publishing The Lutheran Annual decide the best format for including the above items; and be it finally
