Secretary 6-28 To Emphasize Divinity of Call to Presidencies Whereas, The Synod places great academic and spiritual responsibilities on the presidents of its colleges and semi- naries in the program of educating the church's ministry: and Wuereas, The Synod has carefully formulated procedures for electing and calling qualified candidates for this office in conformity with the importance of the offices and with the doctrinal considerations pertinent to the call into a minis- terial office; and WHEREAS, No procedure for the election and calling of qualified presidents will result in blessings to the church or in the realization of the Synod's objectives without the guid- ance of Christ, the only Head of the church, or without will- ingness on our part to be guided by the Holy Spirit; and WHEREAS, The call to the presidency of a synodical col- lege or seminary involves a spiritual dimension and a spir- itual ministry which causes it to differ radically from an election and appointment to the presidency of a secular col- lege or university: therefore be it Resolved, That we. as a Synod, emphasize strongly the doctrine of the divinity of the call to the office of the holy ministry also as it pertains to the calling of presidents of col- leges and seminaries: and be it further Resolved, That. in the matter of selecting a qualified man of God as college or seminary president, we, as a Synod, urge congregations, Boards of Control, faculty election com- mittees. and our synodical officers to resist firmly all political and personal considerations or pressures which are not con- Sonant with the higher spiritual considerations of fulfilling the divinely appointed objectives of the church and with doing the will of God; and he it finally Resolved, That we, as members of Synod, regard those who have been duly elected and called to the office of presi- dent as having been called by God for the welfare and edi- fication of the church, cooperate with them as such, and re- gard them highly in love for the sake of their ministry, so that they may fulfill the responsibilities of their office, not with bitterness and grief, but with joy and in the best in- terest of the church, FACULTY Concorpia SENIOR COLLEGE Fort Wayne, Ind.
