That the South Wisconsin District of the Synod endorse the resolution of the Board of Control of Concordia College, Milwaukee, in reference to its expansion program, and be it further Resolved, That the Board for Higher Education be re- quested to give consideration to Concordia’s expansion plans before Jan. 1, 1975; and be it finally Resolved, That the District through its Board of Directors work in close cooperation with Concordia’s Board of Control to support expansion to a 4-year college as soon as feasible. SouTH WISCONSIN DISTRICT Robert A. Schmidt, Secretary Similar: 6-53B Cross Lutheran Church, Milwaukee, Wis., Cardell Willis, President; Paulette Barr, Secretary. 6-54A To Support Ann Arbor Expansion to 4 Years Wuereas, The task of sharing the message of Christ with the world remains the key task of the church and requires the continued preparation of young men and women who will serve the Lord and His church with their talents and lives; and Wuereas, The Lord has given abundant blessing to our church and the Michigan District through Concordia College, Ann Arbor; and Wuereas, Concordia College, Ann Arbor, has had the privilege of graduating 1,500 students from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Ontario, and other states and countries; and Wuereas, The 1972—73 school year is Concordia’s 10th academic year; and Wuereas, The potential of Concordia’s service to youth and the church at large is extensive because of its location, excellent facilities, competent faculty, and its provision for church professional as well as general Christian education; and Wuereas, Students, parents, pastors, teachers, and friends of Concordia have consistently indicated their interest in Concordia’s program, have supported the college and demon- strated their desire for continued progress and development of the campus; therefore be it Resolved, That the Michigan District recognize the bless- ings that have come to the Synod, to ours and surrounding Districts through Concordia; and be it further Resolved, That we give thanks to God for His goodness and pray that He continue to grant blessing to students, faculty, Board of Control, and all who are part of the Concordia community; and be it further Resolved, That as Concordia begins its 10th academic year, we reaffirm our interest and support of Concordia’s expansion to a 4-year program; and be it further Resolved, That the Michigan District encourage the Synod, Board for Higher Education, Board of Directors, and College of Presidents to take favorable action in expanding Concordia to a 4-year College during the 10th academic year; and be it finally Resolved. That the continuing interest of the Michigan District in Concordia College and our concern that the Synod utilize the many resources of this campus to best advantage by expanding the program to 4 years be pre- sented to the Synod at its forthcoming convention. MIcHIGAN DISTRICT Howard W. Kramer, Secretary Similar: 6-54B Trinity Lutheran Church, Sturgis, Mich., Bruce Schaeffer, Chairman; H. M. Heidenreich, Pastor. 6-55 To Rescind Action Establishing Theological Chair at Saskatoon Wuereas, The training of men for the ministry in the LCMS has begun at the Lutheran Seminary in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, a seminary owned and operated jointly by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and the LCA — Canada Section: and Wuereas, Only by official synodical action in convention can the Synod declare itself to be in pulpit and altar fellow- ship with another church body on the basis of agreement in doctrine and practice on the basis of Scripture and the Lu- theran Confessions; and Wuereas, Such unity we of the LCMS have not yet been able to find with the LCA — CS; and Wuereas, Synod has not declared itself to be in pulpit and altar fellowship with any part of the LCA (neither in the U.S.A. nor in Canada); and Wuereas, There is not the necessary unity of doctrine and practice between the LCMS and the LCA — CS, which is needed to permit the LCA—CS to train our men for our Synod; and Wuereas, This places the Districts of the LCMS in a posi- tion of “de facto” (actual) fellowship while officially not in fellowship; and Wuereas, Our Synod has no control over the doctrinal matters which are taught our young men at the Saskatoon seminary; therefore be it Resolved, That Synod rescind resolution 6-20 adopted at the Milwaukee convention by a very narrow margin (385 to 400).
