L. J. Hoemann, Secretary 2-52 To Continue to Oppose Women’s Ordination Wuereas, The ALC has approved the ordination of women into the office of the holy ministry, and has already done this; and WHEREAS, The New Testament states clearly and suffi- ciently that the practice is prohibited, and that the minis- terial office is to be conferred only upon men: 1 Cor. 14: 26-37; 1 Tim. 2:11-14; 3:2-7; Heb, 13:17; Titus 1:5-9: and WuHerEaS, Also the doctrine of inspiration and the verity of Scripture is at stake when it thus is disregarded: and WHEREAS, At its convention in Milwaukee in 1971 the LCMS reaffirmed its Position on the matter of women’s or- dination; therefore be it Resolved, That we, the members of St. John’s Lutheran Congregation of Chaska, Minn., in a lawfully called Voters’ Assembly on Feb. 27, 1973, do memorialize the LCMS at its convention in New Orleans, July 1973, to again reaffirm its Scriptural position regarding women’s ordination; and be it further Resolved, That the LCMS continue to oppose women’s ordination as prohibited by Holy Scripture. St. JOHN’s LUTHERAN CHURCH Chaska, Minn. Henry Wrase, Chairman Robert Berkey, Secretary 2-538A To Reject Ordination of Women Wuereas, Our Lord Jesus Christ charged His apostles to teach the nations “to observe all that I have commanded you”; and Wuereas, The apostles certainly obeyed their Master’s command and taught His entire body of doctrine; and Wuerras, In the canonical books written by six of the apostles we do not find a single instance where an apostle appointed a woman to the office of the public ministry, in any congregation founded by such an apostle; and Wuereas, Paul plainly states that a bishop or pastor must be the husband of one wife, nowhere saying that a bishop also may be the wife of one husband or a single lady; and WHEREAS, Paul who received his entire doctrine by direct revelation from heaven (Gal.1:12) declares emphatically in 1 Tim. 2:12: “I permit no woman to teach or to have au- thority over men”: and in 1 Cor. 14:34 ff., “It is shameful for a woman to speak in church,” i.e., to want to instruct men in divine services for the entire congregation: and Wuereas, Paul stresses the fact that his directions in this respect are “a command of the Lord”: and WHEREAS, It is not true that men and women are equal in all respects; and Whereas, It is in no wise degrading to woman to be ex- cluded from the office of the public ministry since in the Resolved, That we reject the ordination of women to the office of the public ministry, BETHANY LUTHERAN CuurcH St. Louis, Mo.
