Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States. 1917. 63 PUBLICATION MATTERS. REPORT OF ' THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF CONCORDIA PUBLISHING HOUSE. The Board called attention to the enormous increase in cost of all raw materials, necessitating an advance in prices of the finished products. Notwithstanding increase in gross receipts, net receipts for the triennium have shrunk considerably. The Lutheraner, which the last Synod ordered increased to twenty pages, has been reduced again to sixteen pages, partly on account of the increased cost of paper, partly because the extra four pages could not be devoted to reports from missionaries, as had been “ expected. Synopicat Report. The Board reported that the subscriptions to the synodical reports by no means approximate the cost of publication. Were it not for the fact that many Districts order the report of their own District in wholesale quantities for distribution in the congregations, there would be a considerable deficit. But since more Districts are dis- continuing this practise, Synod faces a deficit in the publication - of various reports. Two possible solutions were suggested. First, that any deficit on this account be paid out of the General Treasury of Synod; secondly, that the synodical reports appear as a quarterly publication, each number containing the reports of several Districts. This would necessitate condensing each report considerably, which might detract : from its value. In spite of every effort to collect the same, approximately $4,000 jn synodical dues is still outstanding. As it seems impossible to collect this sum, the Board suggested charging this amount to profit and loss. Besides the regular periodical publications of Synod and in- numerable tracts, twenty-seven German and the following English publications were put on the market: — A Treatise on Masonry, by Prof. Th. Graebner; Illustrated Historical Sketch of Our Colored Mission, by Rev. N. J. Bakke; Immanuel, compiled by Rev. J. H. C. Fritz; What the Evangelical Lutheran Church Stands For, by Prof. Th. Graebner ; Protestantism vs. Romanism, by Rev. Wm. Haller- berg; Sermons on the Catechism, by Prof. C. Abbetmeyer; Sunday-school Manual, by Rev. A.
