Con- cordia Publishing House, St. Louis, Mo. Artistic blue imitation-leather binding; gold top; 222 pages, 7% X10; 66 illustrations, including 10 full-page col- ored inserts. Price, $3.50, postpaid. This life of Peter is worthy a place by the side of the author’s life of Paul. The characterization is just as true to facts, and the language is just as vivid and gripping. Dr. Dallmann’s biographies of Paul and Peter are well worth reading. In an appendix the author answers the question, “Was Peter ever in Rome?” with a most em-. phatic “No!” The thirty-two pages devoted to a brief study of Peter’s two epistles are a most valuable part of the volume. Siegreicher Glaube. Programm fuer einen Kinder- gottesdienst zur vierhundertjaechrigen Gedaechtnis- * feier der Ucbergabe der Augsburgischen Konfession. Zusammengestellt von HE. W. Koenig; uebersetzt von O. R. Hueschen. Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, Mo. Price, 5 cts.; dozen, 50 cts.; hundred, $3.00. A good translation of a good program. Forty Chorale Preludes for the Organ. By G. 0. Albert Kaeppel. Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, Mo. Price, $1.25. Festal Preludes and Offertories on Chorale Motifs. By G. C. Albert Kaeppel. Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, Mo. Price, $2.00. Living, as we do, at a time when musical people are learning to appreciate our Lutheran chorales, we fecl that these two collections of preludes by Professor Kaep- pel will receive a joyous welcome at the hands of our organists as well as from organists not affiliated with us, since these compositions were written by one who under- stands as do few others how to bring out the beauty and strength of our Lutheran chorale tunes. May composer and publisher be encouraged to bring out many similar publications! “Unto the Uttermost Part of the Earth.” The Life of Pastor Louis Harms. By Olttomar Krueger. Vol. VIII of Men and Missions, edited by Dr. L. Fuerbringer. Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, Mo. Price, 25 cts. The life of one of God’s pioneers whose God-appointed task was to show what one man and a poor congregation can do in the furtherance of the world-wide work of mis- sions. How this man of faith and prayer and self-sacri- fice wrought a modern miracle is well told by Professor Krueger. Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, Mo. Price, 20 cts. The authors-have here produced a fine example of cur- riculum-making. We have the feeling that Messrs. Ebert and Zurstadt had no mean task before them when they undertook the project of furnishing an acceptable cur- riculum for the study of German in our parochial schools because of the problems arising out of the changed posi- tion which German occupies among us. However, we feel Apeined in expressing the opinion that the coauthors of is plan of study have fully kept ‘in view theoretical principles and practical conditions while, constructing this curriculum. Our humble wish is that all branches taught in our parochial schools may receive similar consideration. 3. L. Contributions Received by the Treasurer. June 1—30, 1930.
