But we must see to it that we do not experience in Alabama what we experienced in North Carolina. The mission-school is our best mission agency. h. Immanuel Lutheran College, Greensboro, N.C.— The time has come when two new build- ings are called for, a dormitory for the boys and an administration building. The former would cost about $55,000, while the latter would come to about $68,000, a total of almost $125,000. The Board has requested its architect, Mr. Theo. Steinmeyer, of St. Louis, to prepare blue-prints, so that they may be presented to the convention. It would take too much space to present the need of these build- ings in print. This will be done on the floor of the convention at Omaha. There a plan will also be presented how the necessary funds may be procured. i. A College Church in Greensboro. — About four blocks from the college two lots were purchased in June, 1928, on which a church for our Luther Memorial Congregation is to be built. The building site cost $1,600. Street improvements, ete., will cost another $1,600. Our Grace Church in Greens- boro is about two and a half miles away from the college. The opportunities for the future growth of Grace Church and School are not favorable. For this reason we feel that Grace Church should be united with Luther Memorial. The old property should be sold. In this way the $15,000 appro- priated two years ago for a new school-building for Grace could be used to build a school for Luther Memorial. The neighborhood in which Luther Memorial Chapel and School are to be erected is new, and the prospects of gathering a large con- gregation are very good. For the erection of a combination chapel and school $30,000 would be required. j. The white Ebenezer Church at Greensboro is the church home of our professors and their fam- ilies. These form a good share of the congrega- tion. Ebenezer is compelled to build and asks the Synodical Conference to help. The Board is of the opinion that $7,500 should be appropriated. k. Philadelphia.— Our plant, a former store, has become too small, and Missionary Paul Trum- poldt emphasizes the pressing need of more room. The confirmed members of this congregation last year contributed an average of $40 each—a fine record. In the same block in which our plant is located there is also the church of one of our white congregations, which desires to vacate its present location because of the rapid increase of the colored population in the neighborhood. ‘The congregation 151 asks $40,000 for its property. Since this price is too high for us in more than one respect, the Board, after a thorough investigation of conditions, asks for an appropriation of $25,000 for a church in Philadelphia. There are good prospects for the gathering of a large congregation from the better class of the Negro population. We would again call attention to the fine success we have had in St. Louis and Chicago with new buildings. Plans for the church can be presented. May God, who has blessed our Lutheran Chris- tians with temporal and spiritual blessings in an abundant measure, make them willing to bring those offerings which will be needed to spread His kingdom among the children of Ham!
