This is the German edition of Director Drewes’s En- glish Catechism published last year, which in a remark- ably short time appeared in three editions. Many pas- tors and teachers will be grateful to Director Drewes for acceding to their wishes and putting out this German rendering of his exposition of Luther’s Small Catechism. Extreme simplicity of language, logical sequence of thought, and a most happy combination of Catechism and Bible History are some of the most outstanding excellen- cies of this Catechism. Bobbs-Merrill Readers. Concordia Edition. George Her- bert Betts, Editor. Third Reader and Fourth Reader by Clara B. Baker and Edna D. Baker. Illustrated by Vera Stone. Revised and adapted by A. C. Stell- horn, Executive Secretary, General School Board, Ev. Luth. Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States. Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, Mo. Durable cloth binding. Third Reader, 271 pages; price, 72 cts. Fourth Reader, 387 pages; price, 80 cts. These two Readers plainly show that the committees which the Missouri Synod set to work to select a series of Readers which might be revised and adapted for use in its Christian day-schools made a selection such as only expert schoolmen can make. We doubt whether a better series of Readers could anywhere be found than this Con- cordia Edition, viewed from an educational or Christian . standpoint. It is to be hoped that those having control of our Christian day-schools will show their appreciation in a practical way by introducing the series wherever it is possible to do so.
