Practically all baptized came from the kindergarten and the day school. Twenty confirmed were from the day school. At present 14 children —7 boys and 7 girls, who finished the seventh grade in our day school —are at the Academy in Selma, Ala. — one in the senior class. We are hoping that the pay-off will come in gaining workers for the Kingdom. The baptized list is being worked on, and by the end of the year this number will be smaller, as non-Lutherans who give their children to the church in several instances take them out of the church when they are no longer enrolled in the school, move to other parts, or simply take the children into their churches. That’s just one of those things that we must endure. ‘ A breakdown of adults received into membership shows that 5 of the 8 gained were won because of the children in the day school; one had attended a Lutheran school many years ago, in the twenties, up-state; one was simply away from his church home for years and decided to join our church; and the other, the sheep of another pasture that was not stolen, but elected to jump over the fence with the full knowledge of the shepherd. Computing the Communion attendance on the basis of mem- bers in the city and the surrounding area, 90 in number, each mem- ber communed an average of 8 times. We are happy to report that, as in the past, the children who attend Sunday school remain for the services. Though contributions for missions and education are 25 per cent of the total, nevertheless offerings are pitifully small consider- ing the potential. We pray and will work to improve this situation. The congregation decided not to wait any longer to build. (We were trying to purchase a piece of property across the street.) As the children say, “Weight (wait) broke the bridge down.” By God’s grace, when this is published, we will have dedicated a new-church. We did not have enough money, that is, we could not borrow enough for a school unit also. Likely we would not have been able to pay back either. That can come later, if the Lord will.
