Signed: Robert S. Graetz Louis Routte W. C. Sowell Nelson G. Coleman (The above was adopted by all pastors of the Alabama Con- ference on April 23, 1958) The principles which are to govern such a transaction are _ indicated as follows: Principles Governing the Execution of Board Action Regarding Alabama Conference Congregations I, We will seek to recover from our financial investment in existing Alabama Conference congregations the following amounts: Anniston $ 4,000 Birmingham 22,164 Mobile 3,469 Montgomery 11,109 Tuscaloosa 17,034 Total $57,776 It is understood that we will negotiate with the Missionary Board of the Synodical Conference for as much of the $57,776 as possible. (This amount represents the balance due on church property loans as of January 1, 1958.) The school building and property across the street from Trinity in Montgomery will be sold by the ALC separately. We encourage the Missionary Board to make a loan immediately to provide for the construc- tion of a parish hall on the present church site. Il. We will seek to transfer those pastors now in Alabama Conference congregations, who express a desire to do so, to the ministerium now having jurisdiction over Synodical Conference congregations in the Deep South. III. We will seek a covenant for each deed involved to pro- vide for the return of properties to the American Lutheran Church or its successors, should these properties no longer be used for Lutheran church purposes. IV. Proposed Timetable. A. Pastors Priebe and Fenske are to meet with Alabama Conference pastors and seek to prepare a document of request addressed to the Missionary Board of the Synodical Conference seeking a transfer of Alabama Conference congregations into the Missionary Board jurisdiction. B. The American Lutheran Church will approach the Mis- sionary Board with the Alabama Conference resolution of request and the Board of American Missions’ resolution to begin nego- tiations for the transfer of said congregations to the Missionary oard, C. Should the Missionary Board be interested in further negotiations in this matter, Pastors Priebe and Fenske will ap- proach each congregation involved, individually, to seek official congregational approval. D. We will then seek to consummate negotiations with the legal transfer of properties and congregational affiliations to the Missionary Board of the Synodical Conference. per ew TARTS
