That we accept the “Statement on Scripture” adopted by the Joint Committee of the Synodical Conference (pages 5ff., Reports and Memorials), with the following minor emendations: a. Add to Section I, at the end of the last paragraph: Gal. 1:8-9; b. Change in Section II, paragraph 2, line 5: “John 19:19” to “John 19: 19-20”; c. Change in Section II, paragraph 2, last line: “1 Cor, 2:13” to “1 Cor, 2:12-13”; d. In Section II, paragraph 3, 1, delete “therefore”; e. In Section II, paragraph 4, lines 6 to 11 read as follows: “For since God is the Lord of history and reveals Himself by acts in history and has in the Person of His Son ac- tually entered into man’s history, the historical frame- work in which the Gospel message is set becomes an essential part of the inspired Word just as much as the spiritual truths revealed in it.” f. Section III, paragraph 3, second sentence, read as follows: “The Canon, that is, that collection of books which is the authority for the church, is not the creation of the church. Rather, the Canon has, by a quiet historical process which took place in the worship life of the church, imposed itself upon the church by virtue of its own divine authority.” g. In Section IV, paragraph 3, line 5, change “one another” to “each other.” 4, That since the task of the Joint Union Committee has not been completed because of the press of duties and time limitation, we urge this Committee to continue its God- pleasing endeavor to establish a doctrinal statement aiming at full agreement in all matters of doctrine; 5. That we ask our common Lord to bless the work of the Joint Union Committee in its future deliberations, so that it may achieve its objectives with all possible dispatch. Action of the convention: Adopted as amended. The convention resolved furthermore that all suggested changes be referred for study to the Joint Union Committee, which shall submit its final revision to the individual synods.
