14 Proceedings of the Forty-fifth Convention

This morning, as we are assembled here for our 45th convention
of the Synodical Conference, let us ponder the words of God which
the “man of God” spoke to Eli: “And I will raise Me up a faithful
priest, that shall do according to that which is in Mine heart and
in My mind; and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk
before Mine anointed forever.” (1 Sam. 2:35)

Look down upon us, O God of our fathers, as we are assembled
for our 45th Synodical Conference convention, and keep us true
and faithful to the sacred heritage entrusted to us, to the true and
God-pleasing unity of faith and confession. Have no fear, and trust
the Lord Almighty, because —

The church shall never perish!

Her dear Lord, to defend,

To guide, sustain, and cherish,

Is with her to the end.

Though there be those that hate her,
False sons within her pale,

Against both foe and traitor

She ever shall prevail.
