We encourage the Board to provide future increases in salaries, if and when necessary. _._ We commend the Missionary Board for all the faithful and diligent work it has performed in the extension of God’s kingdom in the domestic field and on the Dark Continent. Action by the convention: Adopted. Report of the Treasurer of the Missionary Board of the Synodical Conference August 5, 1954 The treasurer of the Missionary Board herewith presents his report covering the fiscal year July 1, 1953, to June 30, 1954. Balance Sheet. The “Fund Accounting” system adopted three years ago continues to serve us very well. The cash on hand for each fund is shown on the Balance Sheet — Exhibit “A.” “Cash Due Other Funds” indicates inadequate working capital in the current fund. African Mission Funds. The Seminary and Girls’ School accounts show heavy deficits at this time because recent contribu- tions toward these funds have been insufficient to cover operating costs. Shortly after the St. Paul Convention in 1952, the Missionary Board received a gift from an anonymous donor in the amount of $20,000, designated for chapels and other educational buildings. The International Walther League has set a goal in its program of $10,000 for Nigeria, which will be used to provide a new admin- istration building at the Normal School. The Missionary Board is deeply grateful to these donors and wishes to thank all other contributors for their generous gifts. The funds held for a short- wave station cannot be used at present because of restrictions imposed by the British Government, preventing the establishment of such a station. Hospital in Africa. During the past biennium our Lutheran Hospital at Eket has been placed into nearly full operation. This hospital was made possible through the generous gift of $70,000 from an anonymous donor, plus a $30,000 grant from the British Government. In addition to the total cost of $100,000 for the building the Missionary Board has supplied some $25,000 for equip- ment in the form of beds, furniture, and medical instruments. In recent months the Hospital Equipment Fund has grown to some $6,000 from freewill contributions of various church organizations. This money will eventually be used to supply two generators, an X-ray machine, and other needed equipment. Church Extension Fund — Domestic Missions. Since July 1, 1952, this fund has increased by some $86,000. Of this amount $20,000 was contributed by the constituent Synods in the usual manner through budget provisions. The remaining increases were brought about in the following manner: Missouri Synod for Kannapolis, N.C. _...... $20,000.00 Missouri Synod for Washington, D.C. :...- 20,000.00 Real Estate Sales Contracts with Congregations 23,000 00 Sundry Receipts and Interest Earned _ 3,000.00
