Luth. Synodical Conference of North America, 1954 167 Houston, Holy Cross; Rev. Henry Sorrell This congregation is troubled with much delinquency in its midst. Upon invitation of the congregation, the Field Secretary and the pastor have visited all the members in an effort to determine the cause and to give helpful suggestions for improvement. Mem- bers of the congregation have expressed themselves to the effect that this effort has been helpful to them. The school has an enroll- ment of 24 and is taught by Mr. I. L, Bridges. In August, 1952, a home was purchased for Mr. Bridges with the assistance of the District Church Extension Fund. In July, 1958, some extensive repairs were made at the parsonage with the help of the District Church Extension Fund. The Board of Missions had been giving close attention to some important factors in connection with the conduct of this school, such as the teaching standards in. the school, the facilities, and the fact that a large percentage of the pupils were faithful in their adherence to other churches. The Board made an effort to improve upon all these situations. Finally it was decided to close this school, since the assistance the Dis- trict would be giving toward its operation would not be in the interest of good stewardship.
