The churches themselves are small and can only assume a smaller share of the burden. The District’s treasury is responsible for the far larger portion and in turn receives $5,000 toward this _ from the Missionary Board of the Synodical Conference. TEXAS DISTRICT By the Rev. A. O. Rast, Field Secretary The Texas District in convention during the week after Easter of this year manifested an earnest concern in the fact that the possibilities for work among the Negroes in our State are truly great, but thus far we have been able to take care of these pos- sibilities only in meager fashion. Nevertheless, the District en- couraged its Board of Missions to intensify its efforts in this field of the Church’s mission endeavor. Difficulties that present them- selves in carrying out such a resolution are: 1. The lack of qualified workers for this field. 2. The slow progress in the fields where this work is being done, which necessitates a larger outlay of mission funds. 3. The need for much larger amounts in the District Church Extension Fund if this work is to be intensified. This is a field that is truly ripe unto the harvest in our State. We are happy to present the following report by stations: Dallas, Mount Olive; Rev. P. J. Klenk On May 17, 1953, this congregation organized with eight voting members. Work was being carried on in this field for almost six years without a formal organization in effect. Since its organization there has been some sharing of responsibilities in connection with the work on the part of the members, although much time and patience will be necessary, together with faithful instruction in this area, before some real progress is made. The pastor instructs indi- viduals in their homes in the hope that eventually they may become members of the mission. The Dallas Council of Lutheran Women ‘is supplying the monthly car allowance for the pastor and is also making payments to the District Church Extension Fund on the chapel.
