# Synodical Conference Convention Proceedings_St. Louis Missouri_1954_S134 # Machine transcription, uncorrected — CHI Digital Archive (demonstration) 134 Proceedings of the Forty-Third Convention, Services have been faithfully conducted every Sunday and on Wednesday evening. The Sacraments have been administered faith- fully. The doctrines of the Lutheran Church have been taught by the pastor, the teachers, and their fellow workers. With a more adequate school and place of worship, there should be a steady growth in the membership of the congregation. Though our mem- bers have little more than the necessities of life, they have given freely to the support of the church and have co-operated willingly and faithfully in all the work of the congregation. We wish to thank all who have had a part in the growth of the congregation during its 34 years of existence. We give honor and praise to God for keeping the members true to the precious Word of God. We thank the Missionary Board for the generous loan which has made it possible for us to build our much-needed chapel-school. We also thank the congregations of the Alabama Conference for their contribution to our building fund. A. GIANVITTORIO Hope, King’s Landing, Ala. Pastor: P. R. Hunt Teacher: Miss Theola Gordon Hope Ev. Lutheran Church, King’s Landing, is located on the bend of the Alabama River, seventeen miles southwest of Selma. The congregation was organized by the late Rev. G. A. Schmidt on April 20, 1924. Since that time it has been served by the fol- lowing pastors: Rev. G. Kreft, Rev. R. O. L. Lynn, Rev. D. Robin- son, Rev. B. L. Thompson and by the undersigned, since Jan- uary, 1945, During these years the congregation has progressed, although not without difficulty. The fruits of the Gospel are manifested among the members, who attend Sunday school and church serv- ices faithfully. There has been numerical as well as spiritual growth. During the last five years, twenty-six souls have been added to the church by baptism and confirmation. At present the Sunday school has an enrollment of 64. There are 28 children in the day school. The congregation has a membership of 75 souls. The congregation pays all the pastor’s traveling expenses and $30 per month toward his salary. Even though the congregation may not have as large a mem- bership as would be expected for such a long period of time, it has been a feeder for many of our larger congregations in industrial centers. During the past nine years, 32 have been transferred to other congregations. Therefore we rejoice because these souls have been won for Christ and our Lutheran Zion. P. R. Hunt St. Mark’s, Ackerville, Ala. Pastor: P. R. Hunt Teacher: Miss Laura Stallworth St. Mark’s Ev. Lutheran Congregation was organized on March 20, 1927, by the Rev. J. V. Thompson.
