Synodical Conference of North America, 1954 1921 We wish to call the attention of the delegates to a resolution passed by the Walther League at its 60th Anniversary Convention in Chicago in 1953, viz., to set aside one half of its $20,000 special collection in 1954 for the purpose of providing a dormitory for the Nigerian Mission’s teacher-training program on the normal school compound. The Missionary Board suggests that the Walther League be given a vote of thanks by the convention for this generous gift, Conclusion Brethren, in these last days of the world’s existence, let us as the redeemed of the Lord labor together indefatigably for the dissemination of the eternal verities, so that the Cross, the emblem of the Crucified One, may be embedded deeply in cities and hamlets, in villages and rural areas, and serve as a magnet which will draw ousands into the arms of a loving, compassionate Savior, who is still issuing in all tenderness of heart the winsome invitation: “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,” Matt. 11:20. Time is fleeting! The hour of midnight is approaching! The sand in the hour glass is gradually diminishing! ‘Judgment Day is approaching! In the face of these undeniable facts, dare we whose souls are “lighted with wisdom from on high,” dare we “to men benighted the lamp of life deny?” No, our watchword must ever be: “We must save the lost!” May God grant us a willing- ness and readiness to do that which is pleasing unto Him and which enhances the spiritual welfare of blood-bought souls! Respectfully submitted, THE Missionary Boarp OF THE Lurueran SynopicaL ConFrrence Kart Kurrn, Executive Secretary Alabama Field Reports THE ALABAMA FIELD By the Rev. W. H, Ellwanger, Acting Superintendent In accord with the will and wisdom of God, as clearly revealed by His Word, Christians carry on mission work among the Negroes of our land. Since 1916, when Missionary N. Bakke was sent by the Missionary Board in response to a mission cal] through Miss Rosa 979,617 Negroes reside this day. Through the years the investment from the mission treasury has been heavy. Though missionaries endured extreme hardships and discouragements at times, there has been no retrenchment on the part of the Missionary Board. The Savior’s Word has always been the unquestioned authority and command moving the workers to follow their call with dili- gence and zeal: “Go ye. . , preach the Gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that be- lieveth not shall be damned.” “Ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” “Ye are the light of the world.”
