# Synodical Conference Convention Proceedings_St. Louis Missouri_1954_S114 # Machine transcription, uncorrected — CHI Digital Archive (demonstration) 114 Proceedings of the Forty-Third Convention, professors at our institutions have been urged to inaugurate a pro- gram which would bring to the attention of the churches of the Synodical Conference the need of supporting our cause. The pro- fessors have co-operated in every respect. The Missionary Board through its Executive Secretary addressed a letter to all the pastors of Negro congregations throughout the length and breadth of our land in which particular emphasis was placed on the need for “young workers who can replace the veterans of the Cross and establish congregations as they gradually retire after long years of service” and who can go out into the various fields “to preach Christ, and Him Crucified and Resurrected.” It was stressed in this letter to the pastors that “our Lutheran day schools must have Christian teachers, men and women who love the Lord Jesus with all their heart and who are willing and ready to assume charge of Christ’s little lambs.” Finally, the attention was focused on our two institutions with the plea that “the fullest co-operation should be given in the support of them, particularly in this critical period, when young men are needed for the army of Christ who are ready to go out with the Sword of the Spirit to attack the enemy and win a glorious victory for their Savior.” Summer School The Missionary Board again offered an opportunity to workers in the field to attend the summer sessions of our Lutheran semi- naries in order to receive a new stimulus for their arduous tasks. The expenses incurred in this connection are negligible, and we would suggest to the Synodical Conference that in the future we continue to invite workers to such schools which have a summer course. Budgetary Matters The budget for the new fiscal year, July 1, 1954, to June 30, 1955, will be presented to the Synodical Conference by the treasurer of the Missionary Board, Mr. Russell Rolling, on separate mime- ographed sheets. The budget, as the treasurer presents it, was prepared in many sessions by the Executive Board and was finally accepted by the Plenary Board in its meeting on April 21—22, 1954. The budget, it is true, was approved by the representatives of the four constituent Synods that constitute the Missionary Board of the Lutheran Synodical Conference, however, it must now be accepted by the convention. The amount necessary to carry on our work in the domestic field for 1954—1955 is indicated on the budget sheet as $253,574.00. Explanations on the various items in the budget will be presented by the treasurer to the Floor Committee on Finances at the con- vention. The “Missionary Lutheran” In his report to the convention, President Ellwanger will touch on the matter of the Missionary Lutheran. The Missionary Board has given serious consideration relative to the continuation of this periodical, which has accomplished its real purpose in the hearts of those who have subscribed to this publication. Whether it is advisable to continue the publication of the Missionary Lutheran will rest with the convention.
