# Synodical Conference Convention Proceedings_St. Louis Missouri_1954_S16 # Machine transcription, uncorrected — CHI Digital Archive (demonstration) 16 Proceedings of the Forty-Third Convention, has brought about the present break in relations that is now threatening the existence of the Synodical Con- ference and the continuance of our affiliation with the sister Synod. 2, That we without delay make this declaration known to the President of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, to the President of the Synodical Conference, and to the other Presidents of the constituent synods. 3. That we herewith approve the Protest agreed upon by our representatives immediately following the St. Paul conven- tion of the Synodical Conference, 1952. 4, That we prevail upon the President of the Synodical Con- ference to arrange a program for the convention in 1954 that would devote all its regular sessions to a thorough consid- eration of our declaration in point 1 and of the doctrinal issues involved. 5. That the Conference of Presidents make a Special effort during the coming year to provide all our congregations with thorough instruction regarding the issues and doctrines involved. 6. That while during the period up to the next meeting of the Synodical Conference we, in view of President Behnken’s offer, still anxiously and prayerfully await an indication that the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod will not persist in the present stand as set forth in point 1, we remain in a state of confession. The Synodical Conference at its convention at St. Paul, 1952, adopted the following resolution: Wuereas, Not all brethren of the Synodical Conference are persuaded that the Common Confession is adequate as a settlement of the doctrinal differences between the Missouri Synod and the American Lutheran Church; and Wuereas, The Committee on Doctrinal Unity of the Lu- theran Church— Missouri Synod, as provided for by the Missouri Synod Convention Proceedings, page 585, has pre- pared a tentative Part II of the Common Confession to meet the objections raised against the Common Confession; there- ore be it Resolved, That the Synodical Conference postpone all further action with reference to the Common Confession until said Part II has been completed and presented to the constituent Synods of the Synodical Conference and to the American Lutheran Church. Although I realize that I may be chided for ignoring the res- olution of the Synodical Conference with reference to the Com- mon Confession, I have gladly complied with the request of the Honorable Wisconsin Synod and have given the discussion of the Common Confession a prominent place on the agenda. I am certain that brotherly love and consideration must always supersede a resolution of a church organization. May the Lord so guide and direct our hearts and minds that all we say and do will redound to the welfare of His church and to the glory.of His Holy name.
