Synodical Conference of North America. 1950 4i and 14 voters. Twenty-four pupils are enrolled in the day school, and 44 in the Sunday school. The congregation was served many years by Rev. R. E. Neely and now shows much life and activity under the leadership of a vicar. Nine children were confirmed on Easter Sunday. On Communion Sundays, when it has been neces- sary for the writer to officiate, it has repeatedly been a most in- spiring sight to see every pew of this chapel crowded, from the choir to the rear. Eager attention was given to the Word of Life. It was indeed touching when the entire congregation, including the children, would kneel for the confessional prayer. It was also encouraging to have as many as forty commune at the Lord’s Table on these Sundays. Teacher W. W. Steward was serving at Buena Vista when he was called to his heavenly home May 16, 1949. He had served faithfully as teacher in our Christian day schools for twenty-five years. His co-laborers have collected contributions for a suitable memorial for him. The congregation purchased its chapel-school in August, 1948. It raises $18 a month toward the vicar’s salary, Midweek services are held regularly in the home of a member who lives in an adjoining community and who invites her neighbors to the gathering. As a result, an adult-class is about ready for confirmation. Family devotions are conducted in this home, and a number of friends and neighbors have been won through the Missionary Lutheran and the devotional booklets. W.H.E. Bashi, Ala. Roberts, who formerly served the congre- gation, accepted a call to a new mission field in Chattanooga, Tenn., in 1947, The Rev. S. L. Gailes was installed as pastor on Febru- ary 19, 1950. . W.H.E. Rockwest, Ala. Bethel Congregation had its beginning in 1925 and now num- bers 70 souls, 25 communicants, and 5 voters. The plantation system has retarded our progress in this section. The population is mi- grating, and the contributions are meager. Through the Christian day school, however, which has had an enrollment varying from 24 to 50, many children and homes have been reached by the Word.
