# Synodical Conference Convention Proceedings_St. Louis Missouri_1950_S35 # Machine transcription, uncorrected — CHI Digital Archive (demonstration) Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference of North America. 1950 35 succeeded by the undersigned. The present membership consists of 179 souls, 105 communicants, and 12 voters. This congregation still serves the student body of the Alabama Lutheran Academy-College. The members, together with the stu- dents, make one large family. Its pastors have also served con- tinually as instructors in the Academy-College. It now has a thriv- ing Christian day school of 88 pupils and a kindergarten of 24. Ten children were baptized on Palm Sunday, and seventeen were confirmed. It is our prayer that a church can be built in the near future. This would most likely aid our progress in Selma. R. F. Jenkins, Pastor East Selma, Ala. St. Timothy was organized by Rev. Charles Peay in 1920. The present membership is 129 souls, 28 communicants, and 7 voters. Here we have always had a large Christian day school, through which we have been well known throughout this section of Selma, having brought the good news of salvation by grace through faith to many. The present enrollment of the day school is 55. Mrs. R. E. Skinner, who has served as a consecrated mission worker and teacher in witnessing for Lutheranism in Alabama since 1923, is the teacher. The Sunday school has 80 members. In recent weeks we received 24 children by Baptism and four by confirmation. We are still worshiping in a one-room chapel-school, made from an abandoned cottage. We are greatly in need of a church structure. It is our hope that the two congregations in Selma can be combined to become a strong, self-supporting church body. We ask your continued prayers for God’s blessings upon the preaching and teaching of His Word in our midst. . . R. F. Jenxins, Pastor King’s Landing, Ala. Hope Ev. Lutheran Church, King’s Landing, is situated on the bend of the Alabama River, seventeen miles southwest of Selma. It was organized April 20,1924, by Rev. G. A. Schmidt. The congregation has shown life from the beginning. Pastor Schmidt wrote in the Colored Lutheran of April, 1924: “Just five minutes ago we returned from our meeting at our new station, King’s Landing. More than eighty persons were in attendance. This is not an unusually large number for midweek instruction. We have on our list forty souls who expressed their intention to become Lutherans.” Pastor Schmidt served this congregation about one year. On September 13, 1925, Rev. G. Kreft was installed as pastor, followed by Rev. R. O. Lynn, who was succeeded by Rev. Dewitt Robinson, who served this congregation faithfully for twelve years. Pastor B. L. Thompson served from 1942 to 1945, when the undersigned was installed. During these years the congregation has progressed, although not without difficulty. The fruits of the Gospel are manifested among its members. The greatest thrill that the undersigned has had during his ministry here was when a certain man who ‘had taken four courses of instruction under as many different pastors was confirmed. He is now a faithful witness to his Savior. This is a living example of the fulfillment of Scripture: “My Word shall not return unto Me void... but it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
