Miss Helen Kluck, who served in Nigeria from 1937 to 1939 and who again returned to Nigeria after service in the U.S, Army, is in charge of the home. Permanent Homes and Warehouse Other recommendations by the Floor Committee — the building of permanent homes for missionaries, the erection of a warehouse — were carried out since the last convention. The building of an underground storage tank with a capacity of 10,000 gallons was recently completed. There is now no danger of a water shortage on our Obot Idim Compound. Hospital Concerning the establishment of a hospital, we wish to state that land has been acquired, materials have been purchased, and everything is now in readiness for building operations. We are most grateful to God that He has given us a kind donor who will assume the financial obligations connected with the erection and equipment of a hospital. “Funds have been made available without jeopardizing our present financial requirements for missionary pur- poses.” The Nigerian Government is deeply interested in this hospital and is going out of its way to give us every assistance in completing this project. Budget The proposed budget for Nigeria is presented to the Synodical Conference for consideration and adoption. The African Budget calls for a sum of $32,000 more than the budget requests of 1949—50. This increase may be attributed to the following factors: a. Building Temporary Parsonages.— Since we are preparing to send at least five new workers to Nigeria, it is necessary that we provide temporary bush houses for them, thus increasing our budget for this purpose by $1,500. b. Efik Bible History.—A reprint of the Efik Bible History was necessary. This Bible History will be ready for distribution in Africa in a short time. We must provide for the payment of this item in the budget, which amounts to $1,500 more than last year. This sum represents a loan. As these Bible Histories are sold over the years, moneys are returned to the Missionary Board, thus gradually liquidating the loan. c. Local Leaves. — Here we find an increase of $500 over last year’s request. Reason: More workers. d. Medical Expense. — Here we note an increase of $700. e. Parsonages. — An increase of $6,000 over the budget request of last year is recorded, This is due to the fact that we must add an additional permanent home for a full-time professor at Obot Idim. f. Salaries. —- Owing to the fact that new workers are being sent out to the field, additional salaries are necessary, which are
