Synodical Conference of North America. 1950 19 but who do not have the necessary funds to pursue such a course. Many prospective students for our Normal and Seminary Depart- ments are lost to the Church every year because of lack of finan- cial support. The Board of Control at Selma, Ala., recently re- solved to recommend to the Alabama Lutheran Association for Higher Education for approval and adoption the following quali- fication “for scholarships in behalf of avowed future ministerial students: “1, An average of not less than 85% “2, Leadership ability “3. Good Christian conduct “4, Established need “5 Recommendation by pastor and faculty “g, Agreement signed by beneficiary” It is apparent that such an arrangement will give us addi- tional students and make possible the training of more men for the ministry. We suggest that the representatives of the constituent Synods of the Synodical Conference bring this matter to the attention of organizations within their synodical setup and make an urgent plea for the support of worthy students, who lack the necessary funds for ministerial preparations, in the form of scholarships. “The Missionary Lutheran” The Missionary Lutheran is the official organ of the Missionary Board of the Lutheran Synodical Conference and is published monthly for and in the interest of Negro missions. The editor, the Rev. Wm. G. Kennell, is doing an excellent job in preparing this monthly paper, which is contributing so much, particularly in our mission fields, toward a better understanding of fundamental doctrines of Scripture, in bringing news from the field, both at home and abroad, in keeping its readers informed on the progress which is being made as the result of Gospel preaching and teaching. Articles of interest on developments of our Nigerian field are fre- quently published in this periodical. In it we find biographical sketches of Lutheran ministers, reports on our institutions at Selma and Greensboro, and also brief accounts on the growth of our mission congregations. We are urging the members of the Synod- ical Conference to subscribe to this paper, which is mailed to the homes monthly at a subscription price of 50 cents per annum. Sample copies of the Missionary Lutheran are to be found in the Board’s exhibit booth. . _ Memphis Lutheran Co-operative School This is a real mission enterprise. We shall refrain from elab- orating on the successes achieved by this institution during the past years, since a separate report on the school is offered by the chairman of the local board of the Memphis school, the Rev. V. Brugge. . : We recommend to the Synodical Conference that it give recog- nition to the faithful services rendered this institution by the . chairman and the members of the local board.
