# Synodical Conference Convention Proceedings_St. Louis Missouri_1902_S73 # AI translation — CHI Digital Archive (demonstration) of the Evangelical Lutheran Synodical Conference of North America. 1902. 73 Apart from points which, through adoption of the above report, were raised to resolutions of the whole body, the Synodical Conference [*Synodalconferenz*] adopted the following further resolutions: 1. Those synodical members who have to represent the cause of the Negro Mission in the individual synods and synodical districts shall be reelected, since these representatives have greatly furthered the work of the Negro Mission. 2. Since, however, in individual districts this representation of the mission cause had become vacant, the following members shall be elected: Pastor R. Mießler for the Kansas District; Pastor W. Lüssenhop for the Oregon and Washington District; Pastor F. Soll for the Michigan Synod. (The complete list of the representatives is to be found under the title "Officers of the Synodalconferenz" [Synodical Conference].) 3. The Honorable Norwegian Synod, which stands with us in fellowship of faith, shall be requested to elect one or more members of its body as representatives of the Negro Mission, and the members of the said synod who are present shall be asked to convey this resolution to their church council. 4. The Commission for the Negro Mission shall be authorized to proceed with the building of the necessary chapels. The moneys needed for this shall, as before, be raised through collections, which are gathered for the most part from school children. 5. The hearty thanks of the Synodical Conference shall be expressed to Prof. J. Herzer and Pastor C. J. Otto Hanser, to the former for his long-standing and faithful labor in the work of the Negro Mission, particularly at Springfield, Ill., to the latter for his untiring services as editor of the "Miſſions⸗Taube" [Mission Dove] and as member of the Commission for the Negro Mission. 6. All synods and synodical members shall be made aware that it greatly harms the mission when missionaries and mission teachers are called away from their work in the Negro Mission so soon, as has happened more often in recent times. This resolution shall be brought to general knowledge as a recommendation through the synodical organs. 7. In case a vacancy arises in the editorship of the periodicals published by the Synodical Conference ("Miſſions⸗Taube" and "Lutheran Pioneer"), the Commission for the Negro Mission shall fill the position with the consent of the Presidium. 8. A person shall be commissioned to travel through the region in which new mission stations might perhaps be opened. This person shall if possible be a missionary already engaged in the work; during his absence the necessary assistance shall be provided for him in his own field. The Mission Commission is commissioned to seek and send out a man suited for the exploratory journey. 9. All members of the Commission for the Negro Mission shall be reelected.
