By Pastor C. M. Zorn. Outlines of Doctrinal Theology. By A. L. Graebner. (Second Edition.) Concordia Pupils' Roster. Sunday School Lessons for upper, middle, and lower grades, in German and English (that is, six different monthly sheets). Festival Booklet for the Centennial Birthday Celebration of Dr. C. F. W. Walther. By W. Wegener. It should further be mentioned that our publishing house now prints 20 periodicals (synodical and private papers) and (with a few exceptions) distributes them itself, as well as all the reports of the synodical districts (some in mass printings), of the Delegate Synod, and of the Synodical Conference, and further the "Statistical Yearbook," the institutions catalog, the German and English synodical calendar, the publisher's catalog, the schoolbooks for our parish schools (including the writing and drawing workbooks numbering in the thousands), Bibles, and devotional books. Numerous print jobs were also carried out as customer orders, and the printing of collection envelopes exceeds one million annually. The expansions and changes we described in our last report have proven, to a high degree, successful and well suited to their purpose. Perhaps, however, we may make our chief recommendation right in this connection. Our business has, in fact, grown to such an extent that we cannot help but continue the expansions already begun. We would have done this in the course of the past two years already, but we faced, for the time being, an insurmountable obstacle: lack of space. The delegates can easily convince themselves that we have not only assessed the load-bearing capacity of our floors to the utmost, almost to a dangerous degree, but that especially in the press room and the bindery we genuinely do not have the space to install new machines that have long been necessary. For some time now we have often been compelled to have work done elsewhere, which brings us not only annoyance but also loss. A further expansion of our business is therefore a physical impossibility unless we obtain more room to grow. Now, we would not recommend an expansion of our business if we did not believe, so far as men can judge the future at all, that our market, as it now stands, and especially as it ought to become, will place still greater demands on our capacity. In short, after serious and careful consideration, we believe we must recommend to the Reverend Synod that a further building be erected on the property acquired with great foresight some years ago. We ask for an appropriation of at least $50,000.00, which sum should be available at once. We further take the liberty of the following recommendations: We repeat the recommendation that the collection of the synodical assessment be taken off as a duty from the Concordia Publishing House.
