F. P. Merbitz. — There was also before the Synod the following memorial from fellow Lutherans in and near Chicago: We note with great joy the interest with which, in every part of the Synod, eyes are turning toward Addison, and how the conviction is making its way into every heart that something truly special must finally be done, through honest, modern new buildings, for this our oldest teachers' seminary! No one acquainted with the situation at Addison can close himself off from this conviction. We should, however, like to go one step further. We believe the time has come for the seminary to be separated from the preparatory school and relocated to a larger city. There are a great many reasons for this. We should like to lay them before the Reverend Synod and ask that it give us the opportunity to do so. But so that the Reverend Synod may know at once that relocating part of the institution — should Chicago or a suburb bordering Chicago be chosen for it — would entail no expense to it for land, we hereby report that a large number of Christians here are prepared to offer the Reverend Synod, as a gift, a large, excellently situated tract of land. We add to this offer that both the large Chicago Pastoral Conference and the still far larger Chicago Teachers' Conference — both bodies having been informed of the above — most heartily approve the plan and are very glad that the signatures needed to make the proposal possible were given so willingly. — Resolved: A. Concerning Prof. Homann: 1. That we no longer require him, who is seriously ill with a nervous disorder, to continue bearing the burden of his demanding office, but release him from the office in which he has served the Synod faithfully for so many years; 2. That we express to him the Synod's heartfelt thanks for his many years of faithful work in the Synod's service; 3. That the General Synod's relief commission get in touch with Prof. Homann at once, so that he not lack adequate provision. B. Concerning the house steward, Mr. Stahmer, that he be granted a supplement of $100.00 annually. C. Concerning relocating the seminary and the new building. Out of days of discussion of the above-named memorials, the following resolutions finally emerged in order: 1. That we relocate the entire institution from Addison to Chicago (vote by written ballot; adopted by a narrow majority);
