justify, indeed require, a pastor to serve also in bodily illnesses with
counsel and action, an actual medical practice on his part is by no
means permissible, because through such a practice — for which he has
no command of God whatever — a pastor needlessly loads a great
responsibility upon himself, wastes his precious time, will hardly be
able to avoid a good many inconveniences, vexations, and so forth, and
finally also becomes disobedient to the civil authorities, who forbid it.

                        The "Synodical Handbook."

    Resolved, that a committee, consisting of Professors Selle and
Günther and President Schmidt, prepare a 3rd edition of the Synodical
Handbook, which will be needed before long; that it remove resolutions
no longer of any general validity for either the Delegate or the District
Synods; and that it insert, in their proper places, the resolutions passed
since the 2nd edition of the Synodical Handbook.
    Resolved, that the manuscript prepared by the said committee be
submitted to the St. Louis Pastoral Conference for final review.
    Resolved, that Prof. Günther be charged with the final editing and
arranging of the printing of the said "Synodical Handbook."
