Board of Regents, Concerdia University, River Forest, IL; Board for Higher Education/Concordia University System 5-54 To Encourage Boards of Regents to Elect Other Than District Presidents as Chairs Rationale Concerns have been raised whether it is appropriate for a Dis- trict President to serve as the chair of the local Board of Regents of one of the Synod’s institutions of higher education. The District President serves as the spiritual advisor/supervisor of the president, faculty, and staff of an institution located in the respective District. As spiritual advisor, he is called on to assist the institution in mat- ters that reflect appropriate action and activity as an entity of the Synod. His role includes providing a strong voice to maintain a sig- nificant relationship to the mission and ministry objectives of the Synod. As chairman of the Board of Regents he may well have a conflict of interest in his responsibilities as a District President. The leadership role of District President should not be limited by his role as a chair. Resolved, That the District President of a District in which an institution of higher education is located is encouraged not to serve as the chair of a college/university Board of Regents.
