Promote the recruitment of more church work students with feature articles in the three issues of the Concordia Chronicle, individual mailings (130,000) once a year to eighth through eleventh grade LCMS Lutherans, and a general Concordia Sunday mailing (6,000) to all LCMS parishes that presents effective recruitment strategies for implementation. 3. Lead an endowment effort nationwide to develop a significant endowment base ($26,000 per student) to recruit and financially support Lutheran student enrollments in four three-year phases ($370 million over 12 years). 4. Increase the exchange of courses between campuses via compressed video from 27 in 1998 to at least 65 annually as an effective means of enhancing course offerings through cooperative efforts. 5. Conduct at least three Board of Regents orientation seminars annually or as requested by each institution. 6. In cooperation with the LCMS Foundation staff, conduct at least one leadership training program annually in resource development strategies for approximately 25 officers. 7. What the Board for Higher Education/Concordia University System Does to Provide a Continued Supply of Church Workers Database The source of most information which leads to recruiting efforts is a database kept by the Rosters and Statistics Department. They collect information from congregations. This database is used by two groups of people for recruiting: the BHE office and the indi- vidual Concordias. Mailings Each year several mailings go out to all the youth in the data- base from the eighth grade through the eleventh grade. In the course of one year they will receive two pieces of information from our office. “Diving into Your Future” is a brochure sent to all eighth graders encouraging them to consider a church work vocation. There is a response card included on which students can indicate interest in a specific vocation (e.g., teacher, pastor, DCE, etc.). Over the past two years, approximately 1,000 students have re- sponded. ; Ninth-grade postcard is a postcard sent to all ninth graders as a follow-up to the eighth-grade mailing. It does not ask for a re- sponse but encourages them to consider churchwork. “10 Good Reasons ...” starts to specifically introduce tenth graders to the Concordia University System. It lists ten benefits of attending one of the ten Concordias. Students who respond to this mailing receive a letter from our office along with a brochure which gives more information on each campus. “Guide to the Three Million Square Mile Concordia Cam- pus” is a brochure sent to all eleventh graders which introduces the Concordia University System and briefly describes each campus. Respondents receive a letter from the BHE office as well as the “Majors and Programs” brochure. About 1,500 students have re- sponded in the past two years. Marketing Each year in the college issue of Campus Life we place a full- page ad for the Concordia University System. Some students use the tear off card available and send it in; others use the generic card in the magazine and the Campus Life staff sends those names and addresses to our office. “Teen Home School Shopper’’—This publication is sent out two times a year to a total of 100,000 families. LECNA college fairs—All the above students also receive a flier advertising the nearest Lutheran college fair in their area. Concordia Sunday—Annually we send out a mailing to each congregation in the LCMS which encourages them to celebrate a Concordia Sunday sometime in April (though anytime is fine). We provide a form which they can use to order materials easily, such as the brochures mentioned above, bulletin inserts, litanies, offering envelopes, etc. Poster—Recently the advertisement developed for Campus Life was adapted to be an 11 x 17 poster with tear-off cards and was sent to each congregation and school in the LCMS. Concordia Chronicle is a four-page newspaper which is in- cluded in the LCMS Reporter three times a year (September, De- cember, and March). Radio—KFUO has a nationally syndicated Sunday morning program of sacred music known as JOY. CUS has a 30-second spot on the program. 2001 Convention Workbook
