# LCMS Convention Workbook_St. Louis Missouri_2001_S25 # Machine transcription, uncorrected — CHI Digital Archive (demonstration) Preface This Convention Workbook contains the reports and overtures that have been sub- mitted to the 2001 convention of our Synod. It also includes the official lists of dele- gates, committees, and representatives to the convention, as well as other resource materials. The Report of the Commission on Structure, a separate volume due to the size of the report, is also a part of this Workbook. This book contains important information for all who receive it but it is especially important for the delegates who will attend the convention. In addition, those dele- gates who have been asked to serve on floor committees are reminded to study thor- oughly, in advance of floor committee meetings, those reports and overtures that have been assigned to their committees (floor committees are identified by name and num- ber in the Table of Contents). Floor committees will meet over the weekend of May 25-28. Reports and over- tures have been divided into groups and given the number of that floor committee that will be responsible for drafting responses for convention consideration and ac- tion. It will be helpful to understand the following about the hundreds of overtures that have been received: ¢ The source of cach overture has been reviewed and validated as an entity entitled to submit overtures according to the Bylaws of our Synod. * Although all overtures have been signed by authorized officers, only the names and locations of the entities submitting the overtures have been identified. * Lengthy preambles, introductions, or citations may have been omitted or abbre- viated duc to space limitations, but the originals of the overtures will be pro- vided to the chairmen of the floor committees. ¢ In the case of identical or very similar overtures, only the first to be received has been printed, followed by the names of the other entities that submitted like overtures. ¢ While overtures have been grouped according to subject, at times there may be an overlap of subjects handled by separate floor committees, in which case floor committees will need to consult with each other to determine how the matter will be handled. It will be important for delegates to bring this Convention Workbook with them to the convention. It provides resource material that will be referred to from time to time during the course of the convention. The actual resolutions to be considered by the convention will be printed in the pre-convention issue of Today’s Business that will be published after the May meeting of the floor committees.
