It is vital to the mission of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod that we preserve its institutions of higher learning while moving forward to meet the challenges of the future. We must continue to offer an education of superior quality, making available the best resources to prepare men and women to faithfully and effectively serve in their vocations, whether they be full-time church workers or laypeople. It would be an honor to serve on a board that supports the mission of Concordia University Wisconsin. It is important for the future growth of our Synod and the fulfillment of our mission and the Great Commission to provide advanced Christian-based education at the collegiate level, providing Christian leaders capable of performing superior work in the secular world while also witnessing to Christ crucified. Our world’s problems are no different from any time in our past— they just occur at a faster rate. Our own problems, to provide for expanding needs with a shrinking funding source, will continue to challenge us as we identify future programs and directions while also keeping our overall mission in focus. The focus to all schools in the Concordia University System should be to teach students Christ crucified as related to all subject matter. This is for the sake of their own salvation and that they may take this message out to the fallen world through church-work and secular-world vocations. As a nominee for the Board of Regents at Concordia University Wisconsin, I believe Martin Luther had it right when he said, “Above all things, the principal and most general subject of study, both in the higher and the lower schools, should be the Holy Scriptures.” I believe that it is critical for our children to continue their lifetime study in the Holy Scriptures, which includes the solid foundation of Lutheran education, to know the love of Christ for them, and to make that love known to others through their vocations, whatever that may be—father, mother, pastor, or president of the United States. People today are being impacted by false messages of hope that take them farther away from the cross. Our mission is to connect more people to a life in Jesus. If reelected to the Board of Regents for Concordia University Wisconsin, I would strive to work with the regents to make sure that Concordia does not lose sight of its spiritual roots as it prepares future workers for the vineyard. It is my prayer that our church will work together so that Jesus Christ is glorified. The Synod exists to support its member congregations. From a rich history of such support, LCMS is now poised to strengthen the bonds with congregations in their witness and 58
