Rep. 14. “One People—Forgiven.” This should be the vision for the future of our Synod, not only forgiving one another as Christ has forgiven us but also sharing this forgiveness with those who are still lost without the grace and knowledge of Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This should also be the vision of the staff and faculty at Concordia University Irvine—preparing students to be “commissioned by Christ” in the Lutheran tradition, so that they will be equipped to share Christ’s love and forgiveness wherever the Lord sends them after their graduation (Matt. 28:19–20). As the LCMS remains committed to the Reformation principles of faith alone, grace alone, and Scripture alone, God will guide her through the challenges, trials, struggles, and opportunities that will come on account of her/our faithfulness to His Word. It will be critical for the confessing Church in this post-postmodern era to clearly speak God’s truths to those who do not hold to the reality of absolute truth. Lutheran college campuses in our era need to be held firm to the bold confession and biblical witness that began at colleges and universities such a Luther’s Wittenburg. S. T. A lifelong LCMS member, the mission and ministry of the Church have been my greatest concern, joy, and passion. I have been blessed to serve at various ministry levels in the church, God using my gifts and talents to maintain focus on the Great Commission. I will serve with great humility and thanksgiving, should I be given an opportunity to serve my Lord and Church once again. The world continues to change. As a church body, we need to change also while keeping the message of Jesus constant and the doctrines of the Church pure and relevant for our times. Getting to know faculty, students, staff, and regents at Concordia, Irvine, has been a real joy over the past three years. We faced serious problems but achieved remarkable progress in academic excellence under the cross of Christ. It is my desire to continue serving as a regent as we now search for a new president. I would appreciate the opportunity to continue this vital task and contribute to Concordia’s missional goal of proclaiming the life-giving message of Christ to all people, while engendering a lively pattern of living as God’s own people within the entire student, faculty, and staff community. 55
