We are, without hesitation or shame, to hold to the confessional stance in doctrine and practice of Reformation Lutheranism, as did the forefathers of our Synod. This unashamed confession was accompanied by the condemnation of all false teaching and heterodox confession. This confession will be necessary for the rest of our lives in the face of popular American Evangelicalism, “New Age” philosophy, and Islam. In particular, this confession continually needs to be emphasized within the Concordia University System, as church workers are trained and a proper, biblical sense of Christian vocation is taught in all programs of study. Research shows that a huge disconnect is taking place between children and their church. Family ministries can and will make a difference. Let’s make everyone Christ-focused. As a product of one of our colleges, and before that a student of teachers prepared at our colleges, I treasure the role of our university system in preparing servants for the church. At the same time our Lutheran understanding of vocation emphasizes the importance of well-educated laymen able to bring their Christian values to bear in business, medicine, and public service. If elected I would hope to encourage and support both of these emphases within the constraints of the resources available so that we excel in training men and women to serve our Lord by serving others.
