When one walks into our parish, one sees CPH’s contributions to our community’s life in Christ with the Lutheran Service Book, Service Builder–created bulletins, Sunday School curriculum, The Lutheran Study Bible, Vacation Bible School materials, and Bible studies. It would be an honor and a privilege to serve on the Board of Directors of Concordia Publishing House. I believe this organization is essential to the future of our beloved church and her ability to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world. 1 ordained minister, 1 commissioned minister, 3 laypersons to be elected Qualifications: Concordia Publishing House is the publishing arm of the Synod, conducts market research to determine what is to be published, arranges for the writing and editing of materials, manages publication, and sells the product directly to users or to distribution outlets. CPH annual sales exceed $40 million. The members of its Board of Directors must be committed to producing resources faithful to God’s Word and the Lutheran Confessions, committed to bringing the distinct witness of the Lutheran church to all whom the publishing house serves, and committed to what the LCMS believes, teaches, confesses, and practices. Board members should understand business management, as CPH is a self-sustaining corporation. Senior management experience in a corporation of significant size with experience in publishing, e-delivery, law, finance, personnel, marketing, engineering, or corporate planning would be helpful. Must be available for quarterly meetings of two days each. ORDAINED MINISTERS PHOTO NOT AVAILABLE Alvin J. I see Concordia Publishing House as Synod’s “right arm,” as it helps our LCMS publish and disseminate sound Lutheran doctrine in books and Bible class materials. This strengthens our members and also informs many non-Lutherans. If elected to CPH’s Board of Directors, I would work to maintain and strengthen this vital role. I commend CPH for having recently entered the e-book market. This opens new avenues of informing and educating members of the LCMS, as well as the general public. As the author of eight books with different publishers, I would bring helpful insights to CPH’s future publishing efforts. Privileged to serve on the board for the past two years, I am able to be an advocate for CPH materials to congregations of all sizes. CPH needs continuing strong vision and leadership as the entire printed media industry, and especially denominational publishers, face major challenges. I believe that I have much to offer as we face those challenges. We seek both to serve our Synod and to reach the unsaved through doctrinally sound and outreach-oriented resources and materials. 43
