# LCMS Convention Workbook_St. Louis Missouri_2010_S39 # Machine transcription, uncorrected — CHI Digital Archive (demonstration) Science, technology, and economic landscapes are everchanging. To meet the challenges that affect our seminaries and university institutions, our Synod’s officers, boards, and commissions must remain strong advocates for the development and coordination of programs and strategies and the discovery of new arenas for economic resources and pastoral educational opportunities. With a missional and pastoral heart for continuing education, I pledge to be such an advocate and will welcome the opportunity to serve on the Board for Pastoral Education and work faithfully at vigorously making known the love of Christ by word and deed within our churches, communities, and world. PHOTO NOT AVAILABLE One of the enduring strengths of the LCMS is its two seminaries. Both of them continue to be widely recognized and respected for the teaching of their students. Their history shows how they have been molded and refined over time and through trial. The future of each will be no less complicated. Unrelenting challenges will continue to zero in on them. Experience teaches that institutions, just like individuals, can benefit from these unwanted events. I would welcome the opportunity to assist our seminaries with their future potential. Jeffrey E. I believe that my background has prepared me for such a time of service as this opportunity with the Board for Pastoral Education will provide. I am a graduate of both secular schools and our St. Louis seminary. With the completion of my post-graduate seminary degrees well into my parish ministry, I have come to appreciate the challenges of continuing education. I look forward with excitement to whatever the Lord has planned for me and would appreciate this opportunity to serve Him and His Church. LAYPERSONs  Jonathan A. Also of great value is an understanding of people, how they relate and react to the church and to each other. A knowledge of church governance and guidance in personal finance and family unity are useful. All of the above and more is needed to keep the LCMS the church of the Scriptures and to ensure the church our forefathers started remains the church of our children’s future. Proper pastoral education is essential. Johnny E. Buck, Laurel, MT; Mount Olive (MT); LCMS 59; Financial Services. S. BOR, Conc. Theol. Sem. 12. D. BOD 4; Ed. Bd. 6. C. I know what a blessing a good pastor is to any congregation, and therefore would be honored to be even a small part of assisting the Synod with pastoral education. Jeffrey A. The grace of our Lord Jesus liberates us to be servants of God without fear of failure or that we have not done 38
